About Us
Our Firm Philosophy
We strive to practice law according to these tenets:
- We will at all times be open and honest with our clients.
- We will put our clients first, within all legal, moral & ethical boundaries.
- Our fees will be reasonable, and communicated to our clients clearly and concisely.
- We will restrict our practices to efficiently and effectively serve our clients we will
not provide services in all areas of law, and thereby be masters of none. We will be "legal gatekeepers" for
our clients and refer
them as may be appropriate for legal services in other areas of law outside of our areas of practice.
- We will not delegate to non-lawyers what should be done by lawyers.
Except in an emergency, our lawyers will meet personally with clients to review,
explain, and sign closing documents and wills and powers of attorney, and will
personally attend to closings and communications with other parties and solicitors in all appropriate circumstances.
- We will not overbook we will limit appointments and closings to the volume that can be reasonably and
effectively administered by our offices.
- We will embrace the technological tools that will enable us to practice law more effectively and efficiently.
- We will practice in a way that minimizes the environmental footprint of our operations.
Siksay & Fraser Firm History
- Siksay and Fraser Law Offices was established by Natalie Fraser and David Siksay in January of 1994.
- We maintain our main office in the historic "Hardy Boy House" in downtown Whitby, Ontario with a branch office near the shores of Lake Scugog in Port Perry, Ontario.
- Our main officebuilt in 1914 - is known as the "Hardy Boy House" because Leslie McFarlane, the first author of the Hardy Boys series of books under pen name Franklin W. Dixon, lived at this location for a time. He wrote at least one of the Hardy Boys books while in residence (A Figure in Hiding).
- Our Port Perry branch office at 204 Casimir Street has also been operating since January of 2004 and offers the same range of services as our Whitby Office. All of our files are administered at our main office in Whitby. Our partners are available to meet clients at the Port Perry office by appointment, and we have full reception services there.
- Our partnersNatalie Fraser and David Siksayhave been practicing law together in Whitby since 1987, at first as partners in another downtown Whitby firm that, by the time of its dissolution in December of 1993, had grown to become Whitby's largest law firm.
About Our Lawyers
Natalie Fraser
- Natalie Fraser was called to the bar in the spring of 1987 and began practicing law in Whitby as a founding partner of a firm that grew, by the time of its dissolution in 1993, to be Whitby's largest. Very early in her career, Natalie decided to restrict her practice to the areas of wills, estates, and powers of attorney. Natalie and her partner, David Siksay, founded Siksay & Fraser Law Offices in January of 1994
- Born in Deep River, Ontario, Natalie grew up in Mississauga and has lived in Whitby since 1985. She obtained her education at Centennial College, the University of Windsor, and the University of Toronto. She is married (to her partner, David Siksay) and has three children, three cats, and a menagerie of other pets dispersed throughout her house.
- Natalie has been an executive member of the Durham branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses and has served on the executive of the University Womens' Club of Durham Region. She has also been a Board member of her local church, and a member of the finance committee at Grandview Childrens' Centre in Oshawa. She has participated as a fundraiser, classroom volunteer, and House Tour committee member at her childrens' schools.
- Natalie takes a very serious approach to her wills and estates practice. "My wills practice is not a sideline to another area of practice. Wills and Powers of Attorney are my sole area of legal practice, and I take my work very seriously".
- In July of 2004, Natalie went on leave to complete a program in journalism. As of May, 2006, she has returned to practice on a part-time basis while pursuing her love of writing. Natalie's articles have appeared in The Lawyers' Weekly, The Law Times, Canadian Lawyer Magazine, and The North York Observer. Natalie is currently a member of the editorial board of Peace Magazine and acted as Associate Editor of its May 2006 issue.
David Siksay
- David Siksay was also called to the bar in the spring of 1987 (approximately 30 minutes after Natalie Fraser was called) and began practicing law in Whitby as a founding partner of a firm that grew, by the time of its dissolution in 1993, to be Whitby's largest. After some minor dabbling early on in his career in criminal law, David decided to specialize in corporate and real estate matters. David and his partner, Natalie Fraser, founded Siksay & Fraser Law Offices in January of 1994.
- David was a founding Board member of the Gordon St. Children's Cottage Child Care Centre, a non-profit day centre, formerly located in south Whitby, and was Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the School Community Council of Kathleen Rowe Memorial Public School in Whitby. He is a member of the Durham Professional Services Group
- David was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario, and he has lived in Whitby since 1985. He was educated at the University of Windsor and the University of Toronto. He is married (to his partner, Natalie Fraser) and has three children, three cats, and a menagerie of other pets dispersed throughout his house.
- David takes a relaxed approach to client relations and performs his services with a keen attention to detail. He currently restricts his practice to all forms of real estate law, associated corporate law, and wills and powers of attorney as an adjunct to real estate practice.
